Bleeker Street Kitten
I know, I know, the democrats took the house, maybe even the Senate and Rumsfeld has resigned but my mackerel tabbycat Bleeker has been missing since last Tuesday. Seeing as how the boy's never stayed away longer than 18 hours before, I fear the worst. To some that might not mean much but to me, it's as heartbreaking as losing a child, 'cause that's what it feels like.
Bleeker and his brother MacDougal were gifts given to me by an old girlfriend for my birthday 2 years ago and, along w/Buster Byrnes the Wonderdog have kept this old man from going (completely) crazy through the trials and general crap of the aformentioned last 2 years. Bleeker was the shy one, the gentler of the 2 and although I love both my boys and would miss any of them as sorely, the pain in my heart is as distinguished as Bleeker was from any other cat.
Y'know even for my dramaqueen ass, this ain't making much sense. Listen, I miss my cat and I hate missing him alone. I hate being alone. Why do you think I have so many animals?
Which leads me to the cure for my current malaise. Regular readers might remember a post I wrote a while back concerning a neighbor who was moving and would probably abandon his animals. Well, he did and now Camille, the now pregnant again mamacat, her elder daughter Bottlebrush (you just have to see the cat's tail) and 3 little kittens who I refuse to name as I will be finding homes for them (all of them, I promise) hopefully before the weekend. I'd been feeding them (and Speedy, and Stratton and Howard and all the strays out back) outside every morning for the last year and a half, but we got hit w/our 1st real snow the other day and, well.... could you turn away a pregnant cat w/3 kittens looking in yr window as you mourned for yr own feline friend?
So I once again have kittens in the house which helps as I miss and mourn my Bleeker. MacDougal's freaking out a little, but so far I've been able to keep everyone seperated (Camille basically tried to kill MacDougal the 1st night he came home. Mothers and their young and all that) and anyway, Mickey's been spending most of his time outside lately. Tomcats being tomcats I fear for my Orangecat also, but what will be will etc.
So, not much to report, just the normal ups and downs of a chronically depressed catlover trying to put some good into the world by housing and feeding those he can. Good riddance to Rumsfeld and, just to show that one should never lose hope, come home Bleeker, Dad loves you.

'The Antichrist' Is Brought To You, In Part, Tonight By Lexus
The title above was actually spoken by a tv announcer during a History Channel documentary on the Antichrist that ran a few minths ago amidst all the 'da Vinci Code' hoopla. I about spit my tea out when I heard it and thought I'd share it w/y'all. Not much to report so just a few random thoughts, OK?
Apparently Sting is 'fed up' w/rock and roll saying that modern music has lost something (probably Sting's interest, since he, like I, am an ooooooold guy) and, taking the Richie Blackmore route, has released a CD of medieval lute tunes. Way to rise to the challenge, Gordo! Could have been worse, I suppose, he could have covered 'The Wall' in it's entirety.
I'd like to take the All-American Rejects, the Fray, Augustana, Keane, Hinder and all the rest of these whiny-ass college punks (and not the good kind either) that are pretending to be rock and roll bands and ship 'em off to some kind of Afghan Whigs Be A Rock and Roll Man Fer Chrissakes Camp.
Say what you will about Paris Hilton - I know I have - but she paid for a couple of catchy poptunes to play in the background of her videos. Blondie lives.
I know Blondie herself still lives. I thought they were a joke in 1977 and nothing's happened since to change my mind.
'When You Were Young' by the Killers is my favorite song of the week. One of the few new video bands that don't make me reach for my revolver.
Now that the punk wars are over and cbgb is closed I think it's safe to admit that I kinda liked some of K.C and the Sunshine Band's music.
But not Journey. Never Journey.
The New York Dolls have a new record out. Even though the only living members left are David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain (who's main discriminating feature is he's the guy who isn't Johnny Thunders) from what I've heard the spirit of the band is intact and the production is light years better than the original two records. Of course one could almost accidently make a better sounding record than those two, but it's nice to hear the Dolls - and America - get a second chance. Viva rock and roll!
