subject appears to be a white male, early 50's, pathologically tall/skinny. brain patterns show evidence of a life in alcohol - first swimming in it then running from it. fingers show wear from years of guitar playing. heart presents slow repair, through writing, from being broken by rock and roll.

AND THE WAIT CONTINUES.

Sorry gang, I've been trying for the last 2 hours to upload my CD 'Punk Rock Blues: an incomprehendium of the 20th century byrnes to lulu.com but it ain't working. I think I have them in the wrong format. I'm trying, but my local computer whiz friend had to hock his computer (things are tough in the heartland!) I apologize for the delay - and believe me- I weant to hear this stuff as much as y'all. Simmons found some stuff I ain't heard in 20 years.

Being the technologogical idiot that I am, it's probably gonna take a few days, but rest assured, I'm on it.

Oh, and yeah, my top ten.

10. Darkness on the Edge of Town- Bruce Springsteen

9. Mott- Mott the Hoople

8. Roxy Music - Roxy Music

7. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust  and the Spiders from Mars- David Bowie

6. Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth

5. Plastic Ono Band - John Lennon

4. Never Mind the Bollocks... - Sex Pistols

3. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine

2. Horses - Patti Smith

....... betcha ya thought that'd be #1, so did I. Listen, I'll get into the whys and all of this list and real reviews but I'm pressed for time now, but wanted to at least stop dragging the list out like it was actually important. Oh, Ok.

The Punk Rock Blues #1 Record of All Time is.......

1. Berlin - Lou Reed.

More on this and all of the above soon. Still trying to get my own record available!

Not a bad list, tim. Mind you, we only share one album (Plastic Ono Band), but at least two others would probably make my next 10 (Berlin, The First Roxy Music Album, and maybe Mott too, although I'm more partial to Brain Capers), and out of the other 4-5 I know (i.e., not familiar with that Sonic Youth album or My Bloody Valentine) there ain't a bad one in the bunch.

And I can drag out my list like it's actually important if I danged well WANT to. :P

yep my list would share Plastic Ono Band -- and maybe Horses, but always put Radio Ethiopia even higher than Horses, myself. close though, very close.

my list would have to have hendrix on it. but which one?

roxy -- maybe . . yeah it's a great record. love Avalon though -- even though that's later Roxy -- it's just a great record.

definitely ziggy goes on there. absolutely.

for spruce though, it's born to run over darkness but ok it's close. but thunder road is it.

missing ramones . . . rocket to russia on there.

sex pistols. yep. a genuine classic.

and the first Tom Verlaine solo record.

and Stevie Ray Vaughan. probably couldn't stand the weather.

and lorenna mckennitt -- mask and mirror.

doors first record.

oh and the first U2 record Boy . . and Achtung Baby.

wow this is hard. quite a feat you've accomplished with your top ten. don't think i could do it. but if i did it would have a few similarities.

right now the two things i can't stop listening to are Van Morrison's Magic Time and the new Santana record.

I love Van Morrison. Santana's cool, but try another tone, Carlos, it's been 30 years. Lists are a trip, for real, it was hard picking what I felt were most representative of why I liked a particular artist, hence the Tennesse Williams gloom of 'Darkness' over the West Side Story/Peter Pan hope of 'Born to Run'. I almost went w/Radio Ethiopia, but Horses is just it's own private world for me and though 'Brain Capers' is my favorite Mott the Hoople record, I hadda go w/Mott 'cause, again, that private world thing.
I was struck more by who ISN'T on the list, so I expect I'll be a-ruminating on Dylan, Hendrix, Ramones, Stevie Ray, King Crimson and more directly.
thanks for reading,
tb

Hey Tim, Justin here (the guy who gave you props for your spot-on rush vs pistols analysis...). I enjoyed reading your list and it reminded me of another blogger I admire, a guy (American) in Hong Kong who just posted some interesting picks and thoughts. Check it out if you've got the time and interest. It's under "Nothing to Say" (http://laowai.blogspot.com/)... though he's got plenty.

i'm late to the party, but, lemme see... i couldn't possibly put a top 10 in order, but 10 albums that played prime roles for me (when albums still had the power to do that) would be:
- Rubber Soul
- Blood on the Tracks
- Van Morrison St. Dominic's Preview
- Coltrane's My Favorite Things
- Miles Kind of Blue
- Elvis Costello My Aim is True or Get Happy (or almost anything, actually)
- Cream Disraeli Gears
- Hendrix Are You Experienced
- Led Zepp I or II
- the Kinks Village Green Preservation Society...

wow, i enjoyed that...

fun ain't it? this list has caused me to really think about why i consider a record 'great', which has led me to re-evaluate why i think anything's great. too much thinking!
